Job Title - Data Centre Technician

Location - Edinburgh

Salary - Up to £33,000

We are looking for a skilled Data Centre Technician to support day-to-day operations within a live data centre environment. This is a hands-on role focused on structured cabling, connectivity, fault finding and infrastructure support.

You will work closely with site teams and clients to deliver high-quality technical services, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

The Role

As a Data Centre Technician, you will be responsible for handling faults, service requests and installation activities, ranging from patching and testing through to full cabling deployments.

This is a client-facing role requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cabling & Technical Support

  • Install, terminate and test copper (Cat6/6A) and fibre (SM/MM) cabling
  • Carry out patching, labelling and installation within cabinets and frames
  • Perform 1st and 2nd line fault finding on structured cabling and network connectivity
  • Conduct testing using Fluke, OTDR and NETscout equipment
  • Deliver cabling installations and support data centre migrations and decommissioning

Project & Client Support

  • Work alongside Project Managers to deliver tasks on time and to specification
  • Attend site surveys, support installations and provide technical input
  • Act as a point of contact for incidents, migrations and 3rd party activities
  • Supervise third-party contractors to ensure compliance and quality

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of installations, testing and changes
  • Produce clear test results, certifications and progress reports
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with project and client standards

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to RAMS and site H&S procedures at all times
  • Work safely in live environments, including at height and in confined spaces
  • Follow construction drawings, schematics and scope documentation

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a data centre or structured cabling role
  • Strong knowledge of copper and fibre installation & testing
  • Experience with Fluke, OTDR and network testing tools
  • Understanding of data centre environments and network infrastructure
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Valid ECS/CSCS Card
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Certifications such as CNet (CNCI/CNIT) or BICSI
  • Experience with intelligent infrastructure systems (e.g. CommScope)
  • IPAF, First Aid or additional site certifications
  • Exposure to networking, AV, security or IoT systems

The Role

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales & Bid Management
